Apologies for bumming out Buzz City, but the thing to say about the Hornets’ future might be that they have not traded away any prospective picks.
All offseason paths that are conceivable apparently send them on a summer vacation to nowhere. Break the bank and you are likely paying the luxury tax for a lottery group. Allow him to walk, and you are losing arguably the most popular player in franchise history. Splurge on him Jeremy Lamb, and you could be footing among the most important payrolls of basketball. Lose Walker and Lamb, and also you aren’t currently returning anybody who averaged even 11 points per game.
This summer if the Hornets pinch pennies, they should finally have some cap space in 2020. Obviously, this has never been a free-agent destination, and a Walker passing would leave them without an All-Star aide to assist lure top talent.
Cementing Charlotte into the bottom place? Its prospects are Malik Monk and Miles Bridges. The former is a career 37.4 percent shooter. The latter owns rookie averages of 6.8 points and 3.6 rebounds.
If those are the building blocks, the Hornets may be constructing a house of cards.
